Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of using interactive infographics in teaching activities on student academic achievement, attitude towards the course, and motivation. In this context, we adopt pretest-posttest-control group design. The study group consists of a total of 40 students in two separate 5th classes, experiemental and control group of 20 students each, who are enrolled in the Feyzullah Turgay Ciner Secondary School in Maltepe. We conducted the experiment during the 2016-2017 academic year. The students and classes are randomly divided to the groups. Six interactive infographicss were designed in accordance with the course objectives and learning outcomes of the fifth-grade students social studies course Let’s Get to Know Our Region’. While the experiemental group recevied infographics material, the control group studied the traditional course. We utilize 20-item achievement test, motivation scale and course attitude scale developed for the social studies course as the data collection tool. The data collection tools were applied to the groups at the beginning of the treatment and as a posttest after the treatment. Statistical tests indicate that interactive infographics are more effective in increasing attitude and motivation towards the lesson compared to the environments where traditional learning method is adopted.
