Abstract
This paper proposes a grid connected PV-Ocean wave hybrid renewable energy (RE) power generation system with battery as an energy storage device. Ocean wave conversion system is designed by combining an oscillating wave column (OWC) converter based wave chamber, which fed power to a wave turbine that is coupled to a permanent magnet synchronous generator to generate ocean wave power. In order to build PV array, total five KOYCERA KC85T-87W PV model is designed in MATLAB and all the models are connected in series in combination with one another. To maintain constant voltage at DC link capacitor storage device battery is used. A proportional integral (PI) controller based Buck-Boost converter is used to control the charging and discharging state of battery to maintain constant DC link voltage. A three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) is designed to integrate the proposed hybrid system with the grid. Simulation using MATLAB/Simulink has been conducted to evaluate the performance of the system.
