Alcoholism in Transylvania in the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century and Early Twentieth Century

Abstract

With few exceptions, the theme of alcoholism is almost non-existent in Romanian contemporary historiography. This draws on a number of factors more or less noteworthy such as the thematic and methodological desynchronization of Romanian historiography compared to the products of the Western historiography during the nineteenth century and up until today. On the other hand, we can speak about a pseudo-reformation of the Romanian historiography after 1989 (the year when the communist regime collapsed in Romania).
