Abstract

A simple and new concept has been proposed to realize an antenna-based system for polarization modulation (POM). Four aperture-coupled microstrip patches have been used to generate a linearly polarized (LP) radiation. The polarization angle of the LP wave smoothly varies over its full range using a simple feed network and a voltage-controlled phase-shifter. The performance of the antenna system has been demonstrated to validate the proposed concept. This is a useful design approach for a massive improvement in spectral-efficiency for higher data rate transmission.
