Contemporary basis of rural tourism development in Šumadija district

Abstract

The regionalization process is one of the possibilities for developing rural area tourism, which would significantly contribute to increasing the competitiveness of a specific region as a tourist destination. For such a process to produce results, it must be accompanied by increasing the competitiveness of rural destinations based on the application of innovations and sustainable tourism development in order to protect the natural environment that is the basis of the tourism product in rural areas. Different forms of tourism can be developed in rural areas such as rural, eco, wine tourism, tourism of special interests, cultural and religious tourism. One of the regions in Serbia that could develop rural areas in this way could also be Sumadija.
