Abstract

A low cost compact microstrip patch antenna is developed using air as substrate. The antenna is fed diagonally using a coaxial cable. The antenna has a VSWR <2 from 3.23 GHz to 4.2 GHz. Air has been used to cut down the cost of the antenna and to make the antenna more rugged the patch is made of 1 mm thickness. The maximum gain varies between 8.1 dBi to 9 dBi. The antenna is designed and simulated in CST microwave studio.
