Abstract

Fingerprint plays a vital role in biometric authentication. Fingerprint is a biometric method that is used to recognize people and authenticate. The various features extracted are ridges and valleys collected from the surface of fingertips. It is unique for every individual. There are many biometric techniques presented for fingerprint identification and fingerprint recognition. This review paper focuses on fingerprint feature extraction and selection methods. Minutiae extraction using ridges and grey scale images are discussed.
