Abstract

The integration of wind power into power systems creates new challenges for power engineers in terms of the systems' small-signal stability. It is therefore necessary to investigate and properly address the small-signal stability issues of the concerned power systems. In this paper, power system stabilizer (PSS) and static VAR compensator (SVC) with damping controller are employed for improving the small-signal stability of power systems with wind generation. By using PSS and SVC, the local and inter-area low frequency oscillations are suppressed. The damping controller of SVC is designed and finally the effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified on a 4-machine 2-area test system.
