Abstract
The main aim of this article is to determine and define modal semantic borders. The problem has not received due attention yet and is insufficiently studied. Due to this fact, there is a wide range of different modal meanings. The article presents the results of analysis of various modal meanings found in Russian and foreign (especially western) linguistics. With description method, the main meanings of modality are shown.
