Abstract
Series of experiments were carried out to use algorithmic animation as supportive methods for dance and choreography. Several prototypes including digital reinterpretation of captured movements, interactive digital avatar and realtime hand gesture manipulating system were developed to research on how the algorithmic methodologies behind the generative visual effects can influence or be influenced by dance and performing art under interdisciplinary circumstances. Using motion capture technology on objects and the body, we try to record, visualize and simulate the poetical design of interactional gesture between dancers and animation. The qualities of movements are compared and converted into diagrams by computer algorithms.
