Abstract
Strain A-10, which oxidizes D-glucosamine (D-GlcN) to D-glucosaminic acid (D-GlcNA), was isolated from a chitincontaining soil in Chiba, Japan. The strain was identified as Acinetobacter sp. by the 16S rRNA homology and some physiological tests. D-GlcN in the liquid medium disappeared within 48h, and D-GlcNA was accumulated in the medium. It is remarkable that the maximum yield of GlcNA reached 92 mol% based on D-GlcN. The FT-IR specrum of the isolated D-GlcNA was in fair agreement with the commercial D-GlcNA.
