Abstract

Island power grids usually face with more challenges than the traditional other types of grids. An approach of operation optimization for island power grid utilizing VSC-HVDC is proposed in this paper. It makes use of VSC to actively regulate active and reactive power. The goal to reduce power loss as well as optimize the economic costs due to the switching of capacitor banks in power stations is considered.
