Geothermal exploration in the northern block of the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes

Abstract

Summary Is presented a summary of the progress of the exploration (geological and geochemical) of three geothermal areas located in the northern block of the Colombian Andes mountain range, associated with the volcanism, due to the subduction of the Pacific between the Nazca and the South American plates. Preliminary evidence indicates high enthalpy geothermal systems with thermal emanations structurally controlled by faults in the NE-SW direction as well as the contribution of deep fluids expressed as thermal springs and fumaroles.
