Mapping the Aesthetic Aspects of Natural Complexes in the Western Lake Baykal Region

Abstract

Results are presented of the study and mapping of the aesthetic characteristics of natural features (primarily vegetation) of a tract of land on the western shores of Lake Baykal. The purpose was to conduct an inventory and assign value to various natural natural vegetation formations/ecological zones based on their aesthetic qualities and attractiveness in terms of recreational potential. Considerable attention is devoted to a description of how various categories of aesthetic characteristics were defined and values assigned to them.
