Abstract
Motivated by the recent and rapid development in high speed data transmission systems for optical communications, this paper analyses a class of inter-symbol interference (ISI) free pulses for transmission over intensity-modulated channels. The future trend will probably migrate toward low-complexity and cost effective systems. Therefore, recent work has focused on transmission over Intensity-Modulated Channels. This article addresses the bandwidth management problem in optical fiber communications. The aim is to give a guideline for the design of the new inter-symbol interference free pulses used for optical transmission, while maintaining acceptable service reliability.
