Abstract
In this paper, we describe the theoretic limits focusing them on the 5G performance issues, the physical layer and medium access control techniques and throughput limits in case of Machine-Type Communications. The Shannon’s limit of the wireless medium access control protocols is presented as a maximum rate of error-free data and overheads of the medium access control protocol in practical cases of machine-to-machine communications. That allows predicting traffic crowding depending on the input load. Finally, performance modeling of simplified control protocol with varied priority weights for data traffic is provided.
