The findings here indicate that teachers fail to do the systematic and effective grammar instruction. Abstract

With the introduction of Communicative Language Teaching into China, whether grammar teaching is necessary or not and how to teach grammar teaching in EFL classroom puzzles many teachers. This paper identifies the important role in EFL learning and possible methodologies of grammar instructions. It also explores the students’ and teachers’ perceptions on grammar teaching as well as teachers’ methodologies applied in EFL classroom in South China, through in-depth semi-structure interviews.
