Abstract

A simple and effective ATM traffic control technique is proposed for stepwise VBR traffic sources and the design and implementation aspects are considered. Although many interesting traffic control algorithms have been introduced, these methods are very difficult to implement. The proposed cell control algorithm proves to be successful considering that the primary roles of ATM traffic control algorithms and resource management schemes are to provide satisfactory quality of services to B-ISDN users, achieve high statistical multiplexing gain and protect the network elements from being congested in order to achieve network performance objectives.
