This commentary discusses the strengths and shortcomings of their essay and suggests some alternative strategies. In particular, it identifies three core areas for discussion. The first is that the authors set out a “thin” theory, at odds with the idea that OB in real organizations is inherently complex and addressable only through “thick” descriptions. Second, while the theory covers four levels of analysis, the authors may have neglected the time dimension.
