Abstract

This paper briefly reviews the state of the art related to the wavelength-division demultiplexing systems based on two-dimensional photonic crystal structures. Moreover, a few proposals of WDM systems based on PBG chirped waveguide, developed by our research group, are reported. The operation of the proposed structures is based on the shift of the transmission band cut-off wavelengths obtained by cascading photonic band gap waveguides designed in different photonic crystal sections which are characterized by a variation of the lattice constant along the propagation direction.
