Abstract

The challenge of understanding the role and direction of the strategies developed by the ISEB - Instituto Superior de Estudos Brasileiros, created as an agency to the MEC in 1955, is related to understand the modern societies as historical block - the diverse unit between structure and superstructure. In Brazil, the years of 1950 were the scene of a gradual consolidation of the economic model and concomitant process of democratization and politicization of civil society which resulted in the reconfiguration of the role of the Brazilian capitalist State; the ISEB became part of necessary changes to the new role of the State. Designed as a core strategic advice, the ISEB resulted from the initiative of a group of intellectuals, with significant notoriety and influence policy, which put their academic studies in the service of understanding of the brazilian’s problems, considering the "[…] tasks and matters that the modern capitalist state is asked to perform." (TOLEDO, 1997; p. 184). But despite become a center for the study of national problems, the isebianos did not have active voice in the government machine; your performance stood out in the promotion and development of educational and training strategies of post-graduate nature, aimed at training of disseminators organic intellectuals of an specific project of nation - the "national-developmentalism". The purpose of this study is to understand the role of the ISEB, the nature of this educational and academic post-graduate training strategies, your legacy in new generations of intellectuals and political impact your (in) directly in new ways of building understanding and interpretation of Brazil.
