Abstract

A new control strategy based on linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller augmented with an integral action is introduced in this paper for the robust control of frequency fluctuation of an isolated power generating unit. In literature, LQG has proved its effectiveness in various fields of control but less initiative is taken to apply this control scheme for removing the deviation in frequency. To prove its efficacy, transient response of frequency fluctuation is compared with some of the control methods such as automatic generation control (AGC) scheme, conventional proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and linear quadratic regular (LQR) controller.
