Abstract

This paper proposes a multimedia adaptive modulation with dynamic channel assignment (M-AMDCA) to realize wireless multimedia communication systems. This system controls modulation parameters and the assigned slots of TDMA frame according not only to the propagation path conditions, but also to the feature of transmitted medium, say realtime traffic or non-realtime traffic, quality of service (QoS) and required bit rate. For this purpose, the proposed system measures the received carrier-to-noise plus interference power ratio (C/(N+I)) of each TDMA slot, and selects the optimum modulation parameters and the assigned slots by using the suitable channel assignment algorithm for each medium. Computer simulation confirms that the proposed M-AMDCA system can achieve very high performances for each medium under voice, video and data co-existence conditions.
