Abstract
Blood typing is a critical test in many medical procedures, especially for blood transfusion. Incompatible red blood cells (RBCs) in transfusion might result in intravascular hemolysis and even cause recipient's death. The test result of blood typing can be determined by observing the agglutination of RBCs. In this study, a novel method for determining the extent of RBC agglutination using the integrated Light-Eye Technology (iLeyeT) system is presented. Blood typing tests based on manual polybrene technique were carried out in microchambers. If RBC agglutination occurs, the laser beam provided by the iLeyeT system is blocked and a reduced laser power is measured. The experimental results show that green laser beam had better performance and successful determinations of RBC agglutinations in blood typing tests were achieved by means of iLeyeT system.
