Generic Digital Forensic Requirements

Abstract

A lot of research has been conducted with regards to digital forensic investigations. The investigation aspect has been the main focus, however, without proper and adaptable framework that can satisfy the technological evolution and changes that has made some of the existing digital forensic requirements frameworks obsolete. This study therefore, proposes the development of a standard that specifies the requirements that must be considered in an investigation. Through literature review methodology, requirements include investigation framework, skills, legal aspects and how evidence must be handled. This standard can be used as a reference point that governs how forensic investigation should be conducted. The generic digital forensic requirements developed is simple, adaptable and easy to understand.
