Upon closer inspection of Swedish education in our time, one finds that since the end of World War II the nation has engaged in a continuous, systematic quest to make its educational system more egalitarian and to adjust it to the demands of a modern, industrialized nation determined to do its utmost to contribute to the search for peace. The reader of Western European Education may well ask why an entire issue of the journal should be devoted to Sweden and that country's response to various generally pertinent educational issues. Fair enough.
