Abstract
Conventional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems suffers from loss of orthogonality due to channel time variations. This leads to inter-carrier interference (ICI) which degrades the system performance. In this paper, the time inversion and symbol time compression (TI-STC) scheme is proposed for ICI cancellation in high mobility OFDM systems. The proposed TI-STC scheme includes time inversion (TI) process and symbol time compression (STC) process. The proposed TI-STC scheme alleviates ICI without loss of the system throughput compared to Frank's windowing scheme. The proposed TI-STC scheme operates efficiently up to 40% of normalized Doppler frequency compared to Frank's windowing scheme. The proposed TI-STC scheme is investigated in digital video broadcasting terrestrial-2 (DVB-T2) system under COST 207 typical rural (Ru) environment multi-path fading channel for BPSK modulation scheme. The numerical results show that the proposed TI-STC scheme improves the BER performance compared to Frank's windowing scheme.
