Desgastes interproximais: evidência científica. Interproximal stripping: based evidance

Abstract

Interproximal stripping is an orthodontic method used to create the necessary space for dental alignment. It is indicated in light or moderate crowding to prevent the recurrence of crowding and as an alternative for extraction or expansion of the arch. The reduction from the enamel can be done in anterior and posterior teeth with the use of metal or sandpaper strips, metal discs and burs according to the adaptation and the professional ́s preference. It is an irreversible procedure that demands cares during its execution. There is clinical safety when the quantity of interproximal stripping on dental surface is of approximately 0, 5 mm. Polishing of the stripped surfaces and appropriate subsequent hygiene prevents undesirable effects in the enamel or in periodonto. It was concluded that there is a scientifi c evidence of the interproximal stripping or new anatomy due to reduction of the enamel.
