Abstract

A fractal image coding based on the quadtree (FICBQ) is presented in this paper. Compared with the basic automatic fractal image coding (BAFIC), it overcomes the BAFIC shortcomings: an image has to be divided into square ranges of a fixed size, etc. The FICBQ is simple in the image division and can obtain higher compression ratios and needs less computation time while coding.
