Abcès buccal par corps étranger chez un chinchilla

Abstract

Un chinchilla mâle de cinq ans a été présenté à la consultation en référé pour dysphagie et amaigrissement. Un iléus digestif impliquant le pronostic vital de l’animal est constaté. Après stabilisation de son état général, un corps étranger végétal infecté au fond de la cavité buccale a été retiré sous contrôle endoscopique. Aucune malocclusion dentaire n’a été diagnostiquée. L’animal a récupéré intégralement en l’espace de 15 jours. La gestion médicale de l’iléus digestif, l’utilisation de l’endoscopie buccale, les différentes causes et les traitements des affections buccodentaires chez les rongeurs et lagomorphes sont discutées.

A 5-year-old male chinchilla presented for dysphagia and weight loss. A digestive ileus with a poor vital prognosis was diagnosed. Once the animal had been stabilized, a plant foreign body with secondary infection was removed from the bottom of the oral cavity under endoscopic control. No dental malocclusion was diagnosed. The animal recovered entirely in the space of 15 days. The medical management of the digestive ileus, the use of the oral endoscopy, the various causes and the treatments of the oral diseases of rodents and lagomorphs are discussed.
