Abstract

Looks at the debate over software life-cycle models and the adequacy (or inadequacy) of the waterfall model. The following issues are addressed: whether a generic paradigm for software life cycle is possible or needed; what aspects of the software engineering should be addressed by such models and what issues should be left open; and what role such a model should play in industrial practices and what limits should be set for its applicability.<>
