Analysis and improvement of handover failure in 2G GSM network

Abstract

Handover is the process of transferring services from a Base Station (BS) to another BS. It is one of the key performance index for the mobile communication system. The success of the handover impact to increase the performance of services. Handover failures will impact to decrease the performance. This paper will discuss the analysis and improvement of handover failures. The case study of this research is GSM services in city of Yogyakarta. GSM systems have been selected because its user still very much. Of these cases, the total number of handover process is 794 with handover failure is 28. After analized and repaired, 19 handover failures have been successfully repaired. So after repaired, HOSR increased from 96% to 99%.
