Abstract

The author proposes a solution to the issue of digital communications interoperability between tactical and strategic (or other) groups within an integrated communications architecture of the future. He proposes two significant changes that permit the tactical systems to be integrated into future communication systems. The first change requires a common set of communication protocols to be used over the communications system; the second change encapsulates the unique system and communications protocols within the tactical systems as complete subnetworks. These proposed changes permit connectivity between tactical and strategic groups in an integrated communications architecture and also meet unique tactical requirements.
