Abstract
In digital up gradation of optical processor, it is often required to count the number of optical pulses with all-optical systems. Hence to count the optical pulse, one requires an all-optical counter for very fast counting. In this communication, the authors propose a new scheme for developing an all-optical synchronous counter. Synchronous counter can show faster speed than that of a ripple counter in conventional electronic system. The proposed counter part of electronic synchronization is expected faster speed of operation, as optics has been used here as an information carrying signal in place of electronics. Again the switches are also run by optical switches.
