Abstract

A nanoporous membrane has been developed that is capable of separating chemicals within wastewater so effectively that they can be easily reused – offering industries sustainability and added-value benefits. When designing the coating on the membrane surface, the scientists and engineers behind the work took inspiration from a compound that mussels excrete and use to stick to rocks in wet conditions. The researchers say that the membrane has the potential to replace current equivalents used in electrodialysis
