This test method determines the upper temperature limit for operating a lubricant and can also be used to determine the upper temperature limit of non-EP lubricating oils to protect against scuffing with increasing temperature. It illuminates also the retention of frictional properties over increasing temperature. It illuminates to formulators the formation and stability of protecting tribofilms with increasing temperature.
