An ideal semen diluent contains ingredients that spermatozoa need, such as energy substances, protective agents against cold shock, buffering solutions that protect against pH changes, cryoprotectants to reduce damage to spermatozoa during freezing, and antibiotics against microbial contamination. Abstract
