Caracterização morfológica e agronômica de mamão regional (Carica papaya L.)

Abstract

The aim of this study was to characterize a papaya variety grown in Alto Solimoes, Amazonas, identifying the most important descriptors for recognizing the variety and describing the variety based on its morphological and agronomic characteristics. The study consisted of 30 plants. The qualitative data was described, while the quantitative data was submitted to descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that the variety has peculiar characteristics, such as purple-medium stem pigmentation, the absence of hermaphrodite flowers and the light orange color of the fruit pulp at the horticultural maturity point. Thus, preserving this variety is essential, considering its local commercial relevance and its potential for future genetic improvement programs.
