Abstract
This ergonomic study of the work performed by a psychiatric hospital team is a continuation of the PRESST-NEXT and the SESMAT studies of job satisfaction and burnout among paramedics and doctors. The objective is to address these issues specifically for psychiatry based on an ergonomic analysis of a working day profession by profession. The results confirm the importance of the time spent with patients and of the necessity of exchanges with patients and the members of the team. The lack of which is often the cause of dissatisfaction. The fragmentation of these sessions brought about by interruptions is just as important if not more so than the total effective duration. The inadequacy of the workspaces is a major contributing factor. The proportion of informal work, which is so important in psychiatry in relation to the relational availability of caregivers, could be made more apparent. A participatory approach allows the healthcare team to develop and consider concrete proposals for jointly improving the determinants of both the quality of care and the working conditions.
