Obesity and its associated conditions, including type 2 diabetes, significantly impact healthcare systems, life expectancy and quality of life. The emergence of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists for the treatment of obesity, with or without diabetes, has provided an effective alternative to metabolic surgery and dietary interventions. We are now beginning to understand their pleiotropic effects beyond weight loss, such as their favourable impact on cardiovascular profiles. Obesity and overweight affect almost one third of the European population.
