Abstract

To provide an overview and discuss a case of bilateral pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) in a patient with diabetes. A 66-year-old Indian female was found to have pseudophakic CME in both eyes which caused clinically significant visual disturbances, with onset 71 and 41 days in the right and left eye, respectively, after surgery. Management included dexamethasone 0.1% and diclofenac sodium 0.1% Q.I.D OU. Pseudophakic CME remains a clinically significant differential diagnosis in persistent blurred vision post-cataract surgery despite its’ decreasing incidence. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has emerged as an indispensable non-invasive diagnostic tool for identifying sub-clinical cystoid macular edema in patients undergoing uncomplicated cataract surgery.
