Abstract
Introduction
Discussion
Conclusion
NA.
Introduction
Palliative care is a specific form of care, centered on the patient and his or her close relatives and friends. This care is the responsibility of an interdisciplinary team, in which the physiotherapist occupies a special place, due to an approach, which exposes him or her to different emotions. These are an integral part of the care provided, and help to make it more humane.
Methodology
The aim of this qualitative study was to identify the factors influencing the physiotherapist's emotions in palliative care. To this end, seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with physiotherapists working in palliative care, using a previously developed interview guide. The interviews were transcribed, anonymized and analyzed using inductive thematic analysis.
Results
The interviews revealed a number of factors that might encourage physiotherapists to be emotionally involved.
Discussion
This study highlights the importance and significance of emotions in care, particularly in palliative care. Their occurrence is a phenomenon specific to each individual, and each professional feels it differently. To enhance the care relationship, it is essential for physiotherapists to develop their emotional skills, in order to be able to identify and express their own emotions and those of their patients. The study's main limitations are the paucity of literature and the number of professionals surveyed.
Conclusion
Physiotherapists are in a unique position in palliative care, which may encourage emotions to arise. It is important to train these professionals to manage their emotions and thus develop their emotional skills.
