Abstract

Moths are insects that belong to the order Lepidoptera. Moths make up about 90% or more of the Lepidoptera. Moths have a global outlook. As pollinators, herbivores, and prey for several other higher creatures, they significantly impact the global ecology. They serve as bioindicators since any variation in the population or its diversity directly reflects the state of that particular area. Moths are also regarded as keystone species. The investigation was conducted in the Terai region of Uttar Pradesh's Suheldev Wildlife Sanctuary. The light trap method was applied during the investigation, 71 species from 58 genera and 10 different families were identified. The Crambidae, Geometridae, Noctuidae, Tortricidae, Plutellidae, Pyralidae, Pterophoridae, Nolidae and Bombycidae families are also present but in lesser numbers, whereas the Erebidae family dominates.
