Abstract
The present study investigated the flexural behaviour and strengthening of Reinforced Concrete (RC) beams using concrete canvas. Three RC beams, each with dimensions of 150 mm x 180 mm x 1500 mm, were cast with 40 MPa grade of concrete. One RC beam was cast as a control beam, while the other two were partially and fully wrapped using concrete canvas. The RC beams were tested after curing periods under the 50 T capacity of the loading frame. The main objectives of this study include load-carrying capacity, load-deflection, mode of failure, peak ductility and stiffness, respectively. The load-carrying capacity of the control RC beams is lower than that of the partially and fully wrapped concrete canvas RC beams. The Finite Element Model (FEM) was developed and compared to the experimental results. The experimental results are used to develop the FEM. The analytical results closely correlated to the experimental study.

The Asian Journal of Civil Engineering (Building and Housing) welcomes articles and research contributions on topics such as:- Structural analysis and design - Earthquake and structural engineering - New building materials and concrete technology - Sustainable building and energy conservation - Housing and planning - Construction management - Optimal design of structuresPlease note that the journal will not accept papers in the area of hydraulic or geotechnical engineering, traffic/transportation or road making engineering, and on materials relevant to non-structural buildings, e.g. materials for road making and asphalt. Although the journal will publish authoritative papers on theoretical and experimental research works and advanced applications, it may also feature, when appropriate: a) tutorial survey type papers reviewing some fields of civil engineering; b) short communications and research notes; c) book reviews and conference announcements.
