In lophotrochozoans, a membrane-bound PRR responsible for detecting Gram-negative bacteria remains unidentified. This study reveals several novel transmembrane peptidoglycan recognition proteins (<em>Ean-PGRPLs</em>) in earthworms, whose mRNA expression increases in response to Gram-negative but not Gram-positive bacteria.
