Abstract

Molecules bearing a difluoromethyl motif have found widely utility in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and material sciences. Visible light induced selective cleavage of single C(sp3)-F bond in trifluoromethyl groups is one of the promising routes to obtain gem-difluoromethyl unit, and it had made great achievements in this filed. This article aims at highlighting works on the methods in visible light induced selective cleavage of single C(sp3)-F bond in trifluoromethyl(hetero)arenes, trifluoromethylalkenes and trifluoromethyl bearing on α-carbonyl carbon, paying particular attention to the most recent advances (year >2016). It will provide a guide for fostering new ideas, and thus stimulates more innovations.
