Studies conducted on mental health and mental health services in Nigeria done from 2009 till date were selected for review. The studies were grouped into two categories according to the key words used in the search. \nCategory 1: Keywords used in the search: mental health,Nigeria.This search yielded a total of one thousand and fifty (1,051) publications. \nCategory 2: Keywords used in the search: mental health services,Nigeria. Lack of incentives for health care workers and inadequate workforce were identified as some of the barriers against the use of mental health services in Nigeria. Other major barriers identified were- poor education, ignorance, and stigmatization.
