However, natural fibers also have a few limitations that should be addressed appropriately, including lack of compatibility between fiber-matrix, fiber swelling, excess absorption of moisture, resistance to chemicals and fire. Consequently, various processes have been used to improve the fiber surface, to obtain a better fiber–matrix interface.
