Abstract
This article presents an unpublished manuscript by Alfred M. Bork that was written in 1976 as an introduction to a collection of Maxwell's papers on electromagnetism which was never published. It provides encouragement to the reader to study the original works of Maxwell on electromagnetism, and this encouragement is as timely today as in 1976.
