Abstract

We present what we call a “motivated proof” of the Bressoud-Göllnitz-Gordon identities. Similar “motivated proofs” have been given by Andrews and Baxter for the Rogers–Ramanujan identities and by Lepowsky and Zhu for Gordon’s identities.
